Where to Travel in 2020: Roundup of Top Vacation Destinations Lists
Every Christmas as a kid, I remember waiting anxiously for the JC Penney Toy Catalog to arrive. I would spend hours sorting through the pages, getting ideas for what I would put on my Christmas List. So, as an adult, I look forward to a similar tradition at the end of the year. But instead of anxiously awaiting a toy catalog, I look forward to annual ‘Best Places to Travel’ lists to post online.
While we keep a running list of places we want to travel to, these lists of top new travel destinations always provide great inspiration for new places to consider planning a trip to. True, sometimes popular destinations (like Tokyo, Cape Town, or Dubai) will sometimes find their way onto these lists.
However, we find that many of the destinations are still under-the-radar for most travelers! In fact, we found that many of the top travel destination lists for 2020 were specifically focused on overlooked and less-visited locations.

- Architectural Digest’s Top Travel Destinations 2020– Focuses a little more on bigger cities, but a couple of smaller hidden gems are included to.
- Travel Lemming’s The Top 30 Emerging Travel Destinations for 2020– Great list of less visited destinations with a focus on avoiding over tourism.
- AirBnb’s 20 for 2020– A forecast of anticipated popular destinations with a focus on’ lesser known and Eco-conscious destinations’.
- Frommer’s Best Places to Go in 2020– Focuses on overlooked destinations that are less likely to be crowded.
- Good Housekeeping’s Best Holiday Destinations for 2020
- Eater’s Where to Eat in 2020– Try not to drool as you read through this list of destinations full of tasty eats. Although a lot of the locales are pretty far flung, they have some U.S. destinations too- yay, Milwaukee!
